Health & Bone—Everything You Need to Know About Osteoporosis
Are you over the age of 50? If so, you may be at risk of developing osteoporosis. At least 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime.
Osteoporosis Is a Serious Health Issue
Osteoporosis is a growing public health concern in Canada because the number of people with osteoporosis is predicted to increase as our population ages.
As of 2022, almost 20% of the Canadian population was over the age of 65, and this is projected to increase to 29% by 2068.
To help address this concern, it is critical to follow screening and treatment recommendations to help prevent fractures associated with osteoporosis.
In Canadian women, the annual incidence of fragility fractures is higher than heart attack, stroke, and breast cancer combined (2013)
